SUPPORTING ATHLETICS

The John Starks/Callie West Fitness and Athletic Training Center

The CHS FOUNDATION assisted providing this center to assist our student athletes in reaching their potential. This addition to the existing school building is equipped with both weight training and fitness equipment. The facility is available for use by all students and faculty.

The John Starks Center was funded by contributions from the FOUNDATION and a significant donation from John Starks (’83), a Central basketball star. Starks went on to become an NBA Basketball star, playing for the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz. At Starks’ request, the center is also named in memory of his grandmother who was one of his principal mentors

Those honored in the dedication ceremony included former basketball coach, Eddie Sutton, CHS coach ‘59-‘66 and retired coach at OK State University and Kentucky and and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame ; Billy Tubbs ('53) formerly coach at the University of Oklahoma and Texas Christian University; as well as coaching John Starks and Retired Rear Admiral Duff Arnold ('45) Korean and Vietnam Naval Air hero.
